Overview

Nexaform, a QA tooling startup, needed to bring their test management concept to the Atlassian Marketplace. DevNexus built a Forge-based Jira app from scratch, achieving Marketplace certification on the first submission and 1,200+ installations in the first 90 days.

The Challenge

Nexaform had a validated concept and user research but no Atlassian development expertise. The existing test management tools on the Marketplace were either too complex (enterprise tools with 6-month onboarding) or too basic (spreadsheet replacements with no Jira integration).

They needed to ship fast — before a well-funded competitor launched their own Forge-based solution. The window was 3 months from kickoff to Marketplace listing.

Our Approach

  1. Workflow mapping: We mapped Nexaform's test management workflow from their user research into Jira-native UI patterns, ensuring the app felt like a natural extension of Jira.
  2. Forge-first architecture: We built entirely on Forge (Atlassian's modern serverless platform) for maximum Marketplace trust signals and simplified security review.
  3. Bidirectional sync: We designed the data model to sync bidirectionally with Jira issues — test cases linked to stories, test runs linked to sprints, results reflected in issue status.
  4. Certification prep: We built with Atlassian's Marketplace certification requirements in mind from day one, including security, performance, and UX guidelines.

The Solution

The final app provides three Jira issue panel modules: a test case editor, a test run manager, and a coverage dashboard. Test cases are linked to Jira issues, so QA teams can see testing status directly on stories and bugs.

The app includes bulk operations (import/export, batch status updates), real-time collaboration, and Confluence integration for test documentation.

Results

  • Time to market: 12 weeks from kickoff to live Marketplace listing
  • Certification: Passed Atlassian Marketplace certification on first submission (zero rejections)
  • Adoption: 1,200+ installations in the first 90 days
  • User satisfaction: 4.6/5.0 average rating with zero critical bugs reported in Q1
  • Revenue: Nexaform reached $15K MRR within 6 months of launch
